Saints preserve us! What’s cooking today? I’ve got ideas

Yes, I’m wearing green. And preparing for another St. Paddy’s Day. It’s a busy one, and I’m green with envy for those of you who’ll be lifting a pint today in honor of the holiday. What do you mean you’re not going out? Don’t know where to go? Try these places. And if you’re planning on staying home and making a nice corned beef for this evening, here’s a recipe, and some of my Eaters’ ideas for what to do with the leftovers.

No time to cook? Well, there’s always that old song my grandmother used to sing: “Reuben, Reuben, I’ve been thinking, if the world was made of glass, all the people in creation would go sliding on their . . . ask-me-no-more-questions and I’ll tell you no more lies!” (Kiss her, she’s Jewish, with a “rye” sense of humor.) Speaking of Reubens, here’s where you might go to get your mitts around some of my local favorites. And speaking of my bubbie, were she still alive, I’d invite her over for a “proper” Irish breakfast.

Green bagels? What would Jim Lahey say? He’d say, “Feh! Try my no-knead Irish Brown Bread instead.”
