Famous Dole Whip joins Washington State Fair fare

The Fisher Scones will still be there when the Washington State Fair in Puyallup opens Sept. 5. There will be Krusty Pups and deep-fried Snickers bars. Joining the traditional fair food lineup this year, though, is the frozen pineapple Dole Whip dessert, a cult favorite at Disneyland. Fair organizers say it’s the real Dole Whip deal, a rare find outside of Disney parks and resorts. Look for it at the Duris concessions stand in the fair’s pavilion.

Counting calories? The fair food listings note that visiting “does not have to sabotage your diet,” offering a list of low-carb, sugar-free, and other diet-focused options. For those who prefer the sabotage, another newcomer is the “Bacon! Bacon! Bacon!” stand, featuring chocolate-covered grilled bacon, a bacon-wrapped bacon burger topped with more bacon, and waffle-fried bacon.

To feast your eyes instead, check out the blue-ribbon pie and jam competitions along with cooking demonstrations at the Home Arts exhibit. Here’s the schedule, and a link to one prize-winning pie recipe.
