Old Seattle, meet new Seattle. Hot Cakes, the delectable Ballard “cakery” owned by chocolatier Autumn Martin, has a second location in the works on Capitol Hill. It’ll be housed at 1650 E. Olive Way, on the ground floor of the new 6-story apartment complex planned for the corner that housed B&O Espresso for 36 years.

(B&O had moved to Ballard after losing the Capitol Hill spot, closing a year later.)

The second Hot Cakes branch will have about double the dining space of the Ballard original, with 50 indoor seats and 25 more on a year-round covered patio with a fire pit. It’ll feature ice cream (including a smoked chocolate flavor — shades of its award-winning smoked chocolate chips) mini hibachi grills inside for its equally lauded s’mores, a private events space, and the same boozy milkshakes and pastries as the original. Look for it to open in early 2015.
