A peek inside Chihuly Garden and Glass

Dale and Leslie Chihuly offered press a look at their new exhibition-space-in-progress at Seattle Center today. It’s actually three spaces: A nine-room gallery fitted into the shell of the old Fun Forest; a glass house with 40-plus-foot ceilings; and an outdoor garden where plants and installations will intermingle.

The photo at right gives you a look inside, though you can’t see much except for framing where the gallery walls will be.

Update: Fellow editor Melissa Davis just returned to the office after an extended tour of the Chihuly studio, with these images of glassworks that will be displayed inside the glass house:

Read the latest on the project here, and follow the links to past coverage in The Seattle Times. Tomorrow, look for photos by Seattle Times photographer John Lok in the paper. John will have much better images than my snaps; at today’s press tour, he was doing his job to his always-high professional standards while I couldn’t stop looking at Chihuly’s paint-splattered shoes:

Chihuly Garden and Glass is scheduled to open in April, 2012.
