Tiny Art Show: Scott Jensen

This is “Brown Bear Hat,” by carver Scott Jensen. A newly adopted member of the Tlingit Chookaneidee (Eagle Brown Bear) clan of Hoonah and Glacier Bay, Alaska, Jensen continues his efforts to capture the style of the legendary 19th-century Tlingit carvers in his work. (This piece fuses two significant aspects of Tlingit culture; Tlingit people were also known for the intricately patterned basketry hats they wore.) His current exhibition, “Speaking Cedar,” continues at Seattle’s Stonington Gallery through Nov. 26.
