Real columnists do wear tights

Seattle Times columnist Danny Westneat plays “the illustrious king” in Ballet Bellevue‘s upcoming production of “The Sleeping Beauty,” at 2 and 7 p.m. this Thursday, Dec. 29. I asked him if he had to don tights and he said, “Yes, that’s my kids’ favorite part.” However, he adds, “they are almost entirely covered by my kingly robes.”

Not that there’s any shame in tights, of course. I wore them myself for years, as do many of Seattle’s best athletes, over at Pacific Northwest Ballet. (Too bad no championship rings are given out in ballet.)

Also appearing as the king in Ballet Bellevue’s “Sleeping Beauty,” on Dec. 28, is folk singer John Xeubin Zhang. The production is directed by former PNB dancer Li Hengda.

NOTE: This blog post was corrected at 8 p.m. on Dec. 27. An earlier version contained an incorrect name, taken from the press release, for the guest playing the king on Dec. 28.
