‘Smash’ renewed for second season

All of us caught up in the gloriously silly soap opera that is “Smash,” starring Bellevue native Megan Hilty, will be delighted to hear that it has been renewed for a second season by NBC.

The show, which also stars Katharine McPhee and Anjelica Huston (don’t hand that lady a drink!), is about the travails of putting together a Broadway musical — and, to a lesser extent, about Debra Messing’s character’s fabulous collection of flowy sweaters.

It’s only NBC’s second show this season to receive an early pick-up for next season; the other being “Grimm.”
