$250,000 gift for WWU art collection

Good news in Bellingham: Seattle art patron Virginia Wright has given Western Washington University $250,000 to create two new galleries in the school’s Performing Arts Center and to renovate another gallery. That gallery houses a collection of 13 Alexander Calder tapestries, which will be restored and preserved with some of the money. (Calder created a series of limited-edition tapestry designs to benefit victims of the 1972 earthquake in Managua, Nicaragua.)
