Anthony Kalil is one busy tenor. He’s juggled a full-time day job with opera dreams, performing all over the region — most recently on Sunday with Thalia Symphony Orchestra at Town Hall. Now, he’s been named to The Metropolitan Opera’s Lindemann Young Artist Development Program. The program provides training in music, language, dramatic coaching, and movement from the Met’s artistic staff and invited master teachers. Kalil, who turns 30 on Thursday, won first place in the 2011 Metropolitan Opera National Council Northwest auditions, as well as the “audience favorite” award. The MONC-NW, Seattle Opera Guild and Opera Plus have helped support Kalil, and the Opera Guild proudly broke the news.
