Seattle’s most treasured artist? You decide

The City of Seattle is soliciting nominations for the 2012 Mayor’s Arts Awards from now till 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 17.

The awards are designed to recognize “the accomplishments of artists, arts and cultural organizations and community members committed to enriching their communities through the arts.”

Who do you think is most deserving? Some of the most obvious choices have already been honored by the mayor’s office in the past decade, among them Donald Byrd; Speight Jenkins; Gerard Schwarz; Linda Hartzell (Seattle Children’s Theatre); and the Tsutakawa family. Winners have also included some of Seattle’s scrappier upstarts, including Sub Pop Records and the breakdance crew Massive Monkees.

For a full list of past recipients and the nomination form, go here. For a print version of the form, contact Tamara Gill, 206-733-9591 or tamara.gill@seattle.gov.
