See Seattle Opera’s ‘Madame Butterfly’ for free

Lots of news surrounding Racette Met 2009 Marty Sohl_2606.jpgSeattle Opera’s production of Puccini’s “Butterfly,” opening May 5:

–For the first time, the company will present an HD simulcast of “Madame Butterfly’s” opening night at McCaw Hall on a giant screen at KeyArena — for free. Here’s how it works: starting at 9 a.m. April 9, opera-watchers can sign up for priority seating here. At 6 p.m. on May 5, priority seating for those who registered begins at KeyArena.The doors open to everyone at 6:30 p.m. The opera starts at 7:30. The simulcast will last 2 hours and 45 minutes, with one intermission.

–Also for the first time in Seattle, soprano Patricia Racette, a regular at The Metropolitan Opera, will sing the the role of Cio-Cio-San.

–The simulcast celebrates the 1962 performance of the opera at the World’s Fair that led to the formation of Seattle Opera the following year.
