The award consists of an unrestricted, multi-year grant of $225,000, plus up to $50,000 for retirement savings and audience development.
The foundation also offers recipients financial and legal counseling and professional development opportunities.
This is the first year the foundation has made the awards. There are no applications. Recipients are chosen by peer panels.
Other awardees include jazz musicians Vijay Iyer, Don Byron and John Hollenbeck and dancers Meredith Monk and Bebe Miller.
