Teen violinist from Seattle catches NPR’s ear

Simone Porter, a 15-year-old violinist from Seattle now attending the Colburn Academy in Los Angeles, is making her third appearance on NPR’s ‘From the Top’ classical-music program. (You can hear the episode locally at 7 p.m. June 30 on KING 98.1 FM.) In the broadcast, taped at the Newmark Theatre in Portland, she performs a selection from Grieg’s Violin Sonata No. 3 in C minor accompanied by Christopher O’Riley. Simone made her first appearance on ‘From the Top,’ a showcase for talented young musicians, in 2007, after the show’s music director heard her live audition at the Aspen Music Festival and promptly booked her.
