Cafe Racer, the University District coffee house and artists’ hangout where five people were shot in May, is reopening Friday. The cafe has been closed since the shootings.
“The outpouring of love and support from this community was astounding to me,” said cafe owner Kurt Geissel in an email sent to The Seattle Times. “It became clear to me that the café is more than just a place to pick up a coffee, food or have a drink. The love didn’t just come from the ones we lost, it comes from everyone…This is the main reason that I’ve decided to keep the cafe open.”
