Seattle’s Spectrum Dance Theater, helmed by Donald Byrd, will tour Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka next year at the invitation of the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Educational Affairs and the Brooklyn Academy of Music.
Spectrum will join three other troupes in the third annual DanceMotion USA program, which aims to share dance culture with international audiences. Spectrum will embark on the consecutive, four-week tours sometime between February and June 2013. Other companies selected are Doug Varone and Dancers, based in New York; Hubbard Street Dance Chicago; and Illstyle and Peace Productions, based in Philadelphia.
Also announced today: Spectrum will tour Byrd’s 2008 work, “The Theater of Needless Talents,” to Notre Dame University in Indiana; University of Texas, Austin; Keene State College, New Hampshire; and in Tulsa, Okla.; and Germantown, Tenn., in October-November.
