Talks continue….so do symphony performances

The musicians of the Seattle Symphony and Opera Players’ Organization (SSOPO) are in labor talks with administrators, yes. But don’t panic…no performances have been canceled. “Fidelio” continues at Seattle Opera through Oct. 27, and the symphony is a hive of activity this week: Benaroya hosted pianist Andras Schiff in a riveting all-Bach performance on Monday night (review here), and wait, there’s more: the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE) makes a guest appearance on two Masterworks concerts Oct. 18 and 20, featuring works by Beethoven, Mozart and Haydn, as well as the world premiere of Japanese composer Dai Fujikura’s “Mina”; the first “Symphony Untuxed” concert of the season is on Oct. 19, with works by Mozart and Haydn; and the debut in the experimental “[untitled]” series is later in the evening on Oct. 19. In addition, the Symphony and ICE give a free concert Oct. 21 in Fisher Pavilion as the closing event in Seattle Center’s 50th anniversary celebrations. (Read more about the Oct. 19 programs in that day’s edition of The Seattle Times’ Weekend Plus.)
