K2, the Arctic, birds and more in Seattle lecture series

Subscriptions are on sale now for the 16th annual National Geographic Live Seattle Speaker Series, which runs Jan. 13-May 21, 2013, at Benaroya Hall. Highlights this year are talks by Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner, the first woman to summit all 14 of the world’s 8,000-meter peaks without supplemental oxygen; photographer Tim Laman and ornithologist Ed Scholes, who documented birds of paradise in New Guinea; and outdoorsman/adventurer Borge Ousland, who circumnavigated the entire Arctic by ocean in a single season and who has replicated epic voyages made by Nansen and Amundsen. Single tickets go on sale 10 a.m. Dec. 3.
