Party launches city’s new dance magazine

Seattle’s Velocity Dance Center, which has been teeming with excess dance energy lately, has somehow found time to launch an online dance magazine. It’s called Stance: Journal of Choreographic Culture, and it goes live on Oct. 24. Dancers Catherine Cabeen, Amy O’Neal, Mary Margaret Moore and Julyen Hamilton, along with Velocity executive director Tonya Lockyer are featured in a mix of writings, podcasts and interviews that “aims to activate and foster throught discourse on dance, movement-based research and choreographic culture in and beyond Seattle.” The most exciting component: videos offering looks at work from Chicago, Seattle and New Zealand. The launch party for “Stance” happens 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. Octo Sushi Front Room at Velocity, 1621 12th Ave., Seattle; free. All are welcome.
