From Seattle Times arts writer Michael Upchurch: Pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet won’t just be gracing Benaroya Hall’s big concert stage when he performs in Messiaen’s Turangailla-Symphonie this week (preview here). He’ll also join three stellar Seattle Symphony musicians – cellist Efe Baltacigil, violinist Elisa Barston, clarinetist Laura DeLuca – in the recital hall on Friday for a “French Masters” program that includes Messiaen’s otherworldly chamber piece, “Quartet for the End of Time.” Symphony music director Ludovic Morlot, remarking earlier this month on Thibaudet’s generosity in adding add another concert to his Seattle itinerary, said, “When we have soloists like this, more and more I want to encourage collaboration – general music collaboration with our musicians.” Also on the program: Milhaud’s “Cinema fantaisie,” Poulenc’s “Elegie” for horn and piano, and Caplet’s “Conte Fantastique.” 8 p.m. Friday at Benaroya Hall; info here.
