Those who have followed jazz in Seattle over the years are happily familiar with the creative sounds of the illustrious trombonist Julian Priester, whose pedigree reads like a course in jazz history, from Max Roach and Duke Ellington to Herbie Hancock and Sun Ra. Priester, 77, taught for years at Cornish College, but retired for health reasons. Health issues continue to dog the tough-minded, Chicago-bred jazz man and, as with so many jazz players, his golden years have been plagued by money worries. A campaign has been launched to help Priester get through these hard times. Nearly $30,000 has been raised so far. For more information, click on the “campaign” link.
