See SSO flutist Demarre McGill on NBC tonight
Barring any breaking news that would bump the story, Seattle Symphony principal flutist Demarre McGill will be featured with his brother Anthony McGill, principal clarinetist of the Metropolitan Opera, on “NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams” tonight (Feb. 26). Earlier this month, the NBC-affiliated website www.thegrio.com included the two brothers in its fourth annual “100 list.” The list honors African Americans who are having impact and influence on the arts, pop culture, politics, sports, science and technology, education, business, health, activism and the media. The “Nightly News” profile of the McGill brothers traces their trajectory from the South Side of Chicago to the classical-music bigtime. In interview with The Seattle Times, Demarre McGill noted modestly, “They liked our story.” The news show broadcasts locally at 6 p.m. on KING 5. (Read the McGill interview, which is also a preview of the SSO concert in which he’ll solo, here.)
