ACT announces 2013 New Play Award

ACT Theatre has chosen UW professor Mark Jenkins’ play, “Red Earth, Gold Gate, Shadow Sky,” as this year’s New Play Award winner. The play will be workshopped in July at ACT (two free readings open to the public) and will be part of the 2014 Mainstage season. Jenkins also receives $2,500.

ACT describes the play as the “harrowing tale of a Cambodian family who lives through the American bombing of Southeast Asia, survives the horrors of the killing fields and the brutal Khmer Rouge regime, struggles to adapt as immigrants in modern Seattle, and has to fight for a place in America where incarceration and deportation are a constant threat.”
