‘The Twelve Tribes of Hattie’ – looking north towards a better life

mathistoo

Ayana Mathis’  new novel “The Twelve Tribes of Hattie” is one powerful book. It’s the story of a young black woman who moves north for a better life, but as so often in novels (and life), things don’t quite turn out that way.

Mathis discussed her book recently with host Terry Tazioli on “Well Read,” the books and authors program on TVW, the state’s public affairs network.  It’s scheduled to air at 7 and 10 p.m. tonight, but here’s a link to the online version.

You can also catch “Well Read” many Wednesdays on Tacoma public television station KBTC and Sundays on the UWTV channel on Sunday. Check your listings. For more information on “The Twelve Tribes of Hattie,” here’s the Seattle Times review.
