Seattle Arts and Lectures appoints Ruth Dickey new executive director

Seattle Arts & Lectures has appointed a new executive director. It’s Ruth Dickey, director of Cincinatti’s Clifton Cultural Arts Center.

In a press release, the organization cited Dickey’s programming and fundraising abilities, saying she raised $2 million for capital renovations for the Cincinatti organization, doubled the number of individual donors and created a strategy to gain corporate and foundation support. She has also served as a writer-in-residence in the DC WritersCorps, an organization with similarities to SAL’s Writers in the Schools program.

Dickey has previous experience in the Puget Sound region – she was director of the New Futures program in Burien for four years prior to her appointment to the Cincinatti organization.

SAL  marked its 25th anniversary as a lecture series this past year. It also experienced organizational turmoil. Last fall, SAL director Linda Bowers left the organization, and three staffers were laid off in November.
