ArtsFund grants more than $2.5 million to Northwest nonprofits

Seattle Times arts writer Michael Upchurch reports:

Seattle’s ArtsFund, an organization dedicated to “supporting the arts through leadership, advocacy and grantmaking,” is distributing $2,558,290 in grants to 59 nonprofit arts groups in King and Pierce counties for fiscal 2013. That’s an 8 percent increase over last year.

Seattle Art Museum, Pacific Northwest Ballet and Seattle Opera will receive more than $200,000 apiece. Close behind are Seattle Symphony and Seattle Repertory Theatre, both just under $200,000. Smaller grants will be distributed to music organizations (Early Music Guild of Seattle, Earshot Jazz Society of Seattle, Seattle Chamber Music Society), museums (Bellevue Arts Museum, Nordic Heritage Museum, Wing Luke Museum of the Asian Pacific American Experience), theaters (ArtsWest, Book-It Repertory Theatre, Taproot Theatre Company), cultural presenters (Town Hall Association, UW World Series at Meany Hall) and dozens more.

For the first time, the Burke Museum and Seattle Musical Theatre received ArtsFund grants. For a full list of recipients, go to www.artsfund.org.
