Step up to the microphone at Langston Hughes

Friday (Aug. 2) is the first in a series of open-mic nights called Expresso, put on by Langston Hughes Performing Arts Institute and Freshest Roots. Expresso nights are at 6 p.m. the first Friday of each month, through Dec. 6, at Langston Hughes….EXCEPT the first one, which will take place at Judkins Park in Seattle, as part of the Umoja Festival. (Go here to learn more and sign up for open slots.) Freshest Roots was established in 2009 “to connect the community to our roots through music, art, and fashion. We aim to protect traditions and culture by remembering and reinventing,” according to organizers.
