Wildfire smoke causes cancellations at Ashland fest

Smoke from wildfires is visible near Glendale, OR/Oregon Dept. of Forestry

See? This is what the Shakespeare fest  is talking about. Shown here is smoke from wildfires near Glendale, Ore./Oregon Dept. of Forestry

The wildfires burning in Southern Oregon — lightning strikes ignited a string of blazes now totaling more than 30 square miles — have prompted that state’s governor to declare a state of emergency and the Oregon Shakespeare Festival to take emergency action of its own: cancellations of outdoor performances and preshow talks. Tuesday performances of “Cymbeline” and “The Heart of Robin Hood” were canceled at the Elizabethan Theatre, and more cancellations are anticipated, because of the smoke and the unhealthy conditions it creates. Some performances of the green show have been moved indoors. Check here for real-time updates from the theater fest.
