A handy guide to ArtsCrush 2013 and its freebies
ArtsCrush, the annual monthlong celebration that aims to connect local audiences and performers in new ways and in new venues — helped by free or pay-what-you-will admission — is about to kick off. The official ArtsCrush is Oct. 1-31, but several preview events are scheduled, starting as early as Sept. 9. Here’s the scoop:
–10 a.m. Sept. 9: www.artscrush.org will launch, with a list of hundreds of “creative adventures” that will take place in October at theaters, concert halls, galleries and the like.
–Sept. 13-25: Online lottery for free — yes, free — tickets to those performances you browsed online (see above) will be held. Full instructions are online.
–11 a.m.-2 p.m. Sept. 22: Big ol’ ArtsCrush Kickoff at Seattle Center’s Fisher Pavilion. Dozens of local arts groups will be there to whet your appetite for fall arts. DJ Vox Mod will spin, ChromaMatic will paint a mural on-site; pedicab drivers will ferry visitors around while reciting poetry; hip-hop, belly and modern dancers will hold workshops.
