The third annual GeekGirlCon is Friday-Sunday in Seattle, and while it kicks off with a party Friday night, there are some sobering statistics behind the conference mission: Women hold less than 25 percent of science, technology, engineering and math jobs. To help girls and women make connections in that world, GeekGirlCon offers attendees the chance to join career-focused panel discussions, network with people working in those career fields and receive feedback on their work, in the GeekGirlConnections Room. The con also includes a costume contest and concert at EMP, plus discussions about the portrayal of women and race in geek culture, cosplay, comics and video game design. Guests will include Jane Espenson, writer for “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” the show that all geek girls (and boys) bow down before. Tickets and other details here.
