Things to do this week in Seattle: Music edition

Let the holidays begin! Ring ‘em in with music of all kinds. Some suggestions:

1 Pearl Jam

7:30 p.m. Friday at KeyArena, Seattle Center; sold out  ticketmaster.com

If you didn’t get a ticket to Pearl Jam (or don’t know who they are), consider this a public service announcement: Avoid the streets around the Key on Friday night; with all the construction, and the out-of-town PJ fans who can’t navigate the Mercer (Neverending) Mess, and the massive sold-out crowd, you’ll be in gridlock hell. If you did get a ticket, well, awesome.

2 'The Sound of Music Live!'

8 p.m. Thursday, NBC

This much-ballyhooed event boasts a cast loaded with live-performance talent, which will no doubt come in handy for the broadcast:  “American Idol” winner-turned-country-star Carrie Underwood, as Maria von Trapp; Stephen Moyer (“True Blood,” “Midsomer Murders” — who knew?) as Captain von Trapp; Broadway luminary Audra McDonald (“Porgy and Bess,” “Carousel,” “Ragtime”) as Mother Abbess; Laura Benanti (“Gypsy,” “Nine”) as Elsa Schrader; and Christian Borle (“Smash”) as Max Detweiler.

3 107.7 The End Deck the Hall Ball

3 p.m. Tuesday at KeyArena; $47.70-$77.70, ticketmaster.com

This radio-sponsored holiday bash usually sparkles like tinsel, but this year it’s a blinding blaze of winter Seattle sun, with New Zealand tyro Lorde (“Royals”), Vampire Weekend, The Head and the Heart, Phoenix, Alt J, Arctic Monkeys, Foals and Chvrches.

4 Seattle Symphony Holiday Pops

Thursday-Sunday, Benaroya Hall, Seattle; $19-$91 seattlesymphony.org

SSO Pops conductor Jeff Tyzik invites listeners “Home for the Holidays” at Benaroya Hall, with a program full of festive tunes: “Sleigh Ride,” “The Christmas Song,” “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Rag” and selections from John Williams’ score for “Home Alone,” among others.

5 Dina Martina

Through Dec. 31, Re-bar, Seattle, $20-$25 dinamartina.com

Dina, described as a “tragic singer, horrible dancer and surreal raconteur,” and known as more than just your garden-variety twisted cabaret chanteuse, returns to the Re-bar with her camp-zany Yuletide extravaganza. Warning: Adult material.
