Congratulations to James Shinners and family, winners of the 2013 Seattle Times holiday-lights contest. Our staff judges chose the family’s compact, kaleidoscopic display from among a couple dozen entries (see them all below).
Shinner told us via email that he adds more and more illumination every year. “My dad decorated our house for us, and it was always one of my favorite memories,” he said. “I decided to continue the tradition for my own three kids. My wife and kids tease me about my obsession.
“My daughter told my wife recently, ‘Dad is really crazy with all his Christmas lights. But I love how bright and beautiful our house is.’ ”
The Shinners children — 9-year-old twins Lulu and Arie and 13-year-old Nevin — also do their part. This year, during Green Lake’s Pathway of Lights festival, the children sold cocoa to people who stopped to view their home (at 1324 N. 77th St., Seattle) and donated it to PAWS.
As contest winners, the Shinners lay claim to a $100 Starbucks gift card.
Here are the rest of the entries — all of them sparkling with cheer.
Happy holidays to all!
