Wing Luke grant will save opera recordings

The Grammy Foundation has awarded the Wing Luke Museum of the Asian Pacific American Experience a grant of $13,114 to save/enhance taped recordings of Chinese operas. The museum has 251 tapes, recorded from 1960-1975, and will catalog and digitize them. A news release from the foundation states that “Several operas were recorded in one of the oldest Chinese opera clubs in the country, Seattle’s Luck Ngi Musical Club.” The club celebrated its 75th anniversary last year.
