Two ways to celebrate the arts on a Friday night:
–It’s ArtsNight at Safeco Field, meaning there is more going on than just the Mariners game. The Centerpiece Jazz Band will play outside the gates, pregame; Lane Czaplinski, artistic director at On the Boards, will throw out the first pitch; opera singer Robert McPherson will deliver the national anthem; and the whole shebang finishes off with fireworks. If you purchase tickets using the code “ArtsNight,” you’ll get a T-shirt. The game, against Cleveland, starts at 7:10 p.m.
–On the Eastside, the “Bellwether 2014: Connect” biennial sculpture exhibition/installation kicks off with a gathering at Bellevue City Hall, 450 110th Ave. N.E., 6-8 p.m. Eduardo Mendonça and his trio will play. “Bellwether” consists of 30-odd pieces by regional artists dotting a 3/4-mile walking route between Bellevue City Hall and Downtown Park. Some of the artists will be on hand.
