Last week, we reported on some personnel and structural changes at ArtsWest and Balagan Theatre. Today, Seattle Times theater critic Misha Berson has more news from these two local outfits. She writes:
The 1991 movie “Dogfight” depicts the unexpected romance between a wallflower waitress (Lili Taylor) and a young Marine (River Phoenix) about to be shipped off to the Vietnam War.
The film is also the basis for “Dogfight” the new musical, which received its 2012 premiere Off Broadway and will be further developed in Seattle this fall in a joint production by Balagan Theatre and ArtsWest Theatre.
“Dogfight” features music and lyrics by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (“James and the Giant Peach,” “A Christmas Story”), and a book by Peter Duchan (“Stu for Silverton”), artists whose work is getting a lot of stage time in Seattle lately.
The show runs Oct. 23-Nov. 22 at ArtsWest, and replaces “Bad Apples” in Balagan’s 2014-15 season and “The Pride” in ArtsWest’s line-up.
