Disney looks to Seattle for Internet CTO

Cementing its longtime Seattle presence, Walt Disney Internet Group named local tech veteran A.D. “Bud” Albers its new chief technology officer.

Albers will remain based in Seattle, where the group develops and delivers Disney-branded content for the Web and mobile devices.

Starting Jan. 2, Albers “will be responsible for leading technological breakthroughs on existing platforms as well as developing cutting-edge new technology solutions in support of the company’s new media technology needs,” Disney said in a release.

Albers was former SVP and CTO at MediaNet Digital, the latest incarnation of MusicNet, where he worked on music service launches such as those for Microsoft’s Zune, MTV’s Urge and Yahoo Music Unlimited, the release said.

“His technical knowledge combined with his strategic thinking will help us achieve our vision of a world where users can access The Walt Disney Co. content, including Disney-branded characters and stories, ABC news and entertainment and ESPN sports coverage and analysis, anytime and anywhere,” Steve Wadsworth, the group president to whom Albers will report, said in the release.

Earlier Albers was CTO of Drugstore.com.

(Okay, now I’m really taking that vacation)
