Coming soon: Another iPod-Zune shootout

We’ll see if Microsoft’s Zune fares better this time around.

The Redmond company is preparing a holiday refresh of its Zune music player, including a 120 gigabyte model uncovered by site Zunerama and apparently confirmed by Zune evangelist Cesar Menendez.

Microsoft better have more than a bigger hard drive. How about some new wireless applications, like the Wi-Fi remote control that Apple’s now offering?

Meanwhile, the word’s out that Apple will announce new stuff on Sept. 9. One likely announcement is a $100 price drop for the 8 gig iPod Touch, which will probably fall to $199 from $299, analyst Gene Munster said in a Bloomberg story.

I wonder if Apple will highlight the iTunes Remote application to move more iPod Touch units.

Could Apple put Wi-Fi into other players in the line, giving more iPods the ability to tap into wireless services spawned by the iPhone?
