BlackBerry’s timely Storm launches

What a perfect name for a phone launching today, as unemployment soars, Wall Street plunges and locally King County copes with flooding.

The 9530 is pitched as the first “clickable” touchscreen smartphone. Verizon today said the phone will be available Nov. 21 for $199.99 after a $50 rebate and commitment to a two-year subscription.

Makes me think of the WTIA predictions event Tuesday, where Madrona’s Matt McIlwain said he’s expecting RIM — with its broader distribution channel and better enterprise position — to withstand the iPhone challenge.

I wonder if any companies will use the last of their 2008 budgets to upgrade to these lovely gadgets? All they need is a nice App Store …
