Clearwire sets “Clear” launch in Portland: Jan. 6

The first West Coast launch of Clearwire’sClear” brand 4G broadband service will happen Jan. 6 in Portland, the company officially disclosed today in a press release announcing the launch event.

That’s the day before the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, where I’m guessing we’ll hear about all sorts of new WiMax gadgets.

Clearwire’s already promoting and pre-selling the packages in Portland. Home service is $20 to $40 per month at speeds from 786 to 6 Mbps is $40. Mobile service is $30 to $50, depending on capacity, plus a $10 one-day pass.

In October the same service was launched in Baltimore under Sprint’s lame-duck Xohm brand.

A spokesman said there’s still no word on when Clear will come to Seattle.
