Binging Bill: A quick visual tour of Microsoft’s new Bing search engine

Here’s a batch of screenshots that provide a glimple of Bing, Microsoft’s new “decision engine” search engine that goes live June 3. Click if you’d like to zoom in, or check out the Bing landing page for more. (Shots with the Kumo placeholder brand are my screengrabs; the Bing branded images are from Microsoft.)

The home page:

A quick test — what does Bing say about Bill?

Search for Seattle pizza:

Microsoft calls this “sentiment extraction,” but what it means is that Bing gathers and summarizes a bunch of reviews from the Web:

A few of the 180,002 videos found when you search Bing for U2. Note the list of tabs displayed on the left. When you search for U2, Bing guesses (or hopes?) you may be interested in songs, tickets, ringtones:

It looks like Bing is going to be an outstanding tool for travel shopping. Maybe Microsoft shouldn’t have spun off Expedia:

Bing makes good use of Farecast, the Seattle travel price prediction service Microsoft acquired for $115 million in April 2008:

I’ll bet Microsoft is wishing it still operated Sidewalk, the directory/listings service it built and folded during the Web 1.0 era. Bing offers Sidewalk version 3.0:
