Dark Void, the debut triple-A title from Redmond’s Airtight Games, will go on sale Jan. 12 in the U.S. and Jan. 15 in Europe, publisher Capcom announced today.
That’s a little later than expected but maybe it’s going to avoid the flood of action games coming out this fall.
Airtight – led by a group of mostly ex-Microsoft game developers – has already generated lots of positive buzz with previews of the game. It’s being released for the Xbox, PS3 and PC.
As promised, Capcom’s turning up the promotions for Dark Void, highlighting its retro jetpack vertical combat theme with a skydiving booth for attendees of GamesCom, a conference this week in Cologne, Germany.
Here’s how Capcom described the game:
Dark Void’s unique combination of jetpack-booster aerial dog fighting and third-person combat creates a thrilling new gameplay dynamic to the third-person shooter experience. Taking 3D action to a whole new level, Dark Void’s unique vertical combat system allows players to dangle from thousand foot drops as they take cover and hurl enemies to their doom, bringing a whole new sense of tension and thrill to the player. (Protagonist) Will is also equipped with a powerful jet pack which allows for fierce in-air combat, hurtling through the Void at blistering speeds while shooting down anything that gets in his path.
