AT&T merger trial date almost set, but not quite

The federal lawsuit seeking to block AT&T’s acquisition of T-Mobile USA is off to a flying start.

The two sides can’t agree on a trial date, and today asked a federal judge to help set their calendar.

The U.S. Department of Justice and the coalition of states opposing the deal – including Washington – want the trial to begin March 19. But AT&T/T-Mobile/Deutsche Telekom wants it to begin Jan. 16.

They’re planning to duke out the agenda during a status conference schduled for next Wednesday, Sept. 21, according to a status report submitted this afternoon by the DOJ.
