Wordament re-launch party, tournament

Word wonks have a chance to win the elusive white Lumia 900 at a tournament that Microsoft’s Wordament team is hosting Thursday night at the Bellevue Square Microsoft Store.

Sign-ups start at 6:30 for the 7 p.m. tournament playing the hit Windows Phone word-search game, which is similar to the board game Boggle.

Prizes include a Kinect sensor and a white Lumia 900, the initial batch of which sold out at AT&T stores after its debut on Sunday.

Thursday’s event in Bellevue is really a launch party for a new version of Wordament. It has been redesigned and now connects with the Xbox Live game service.

It’s a slightly bittersweet release for some longtime players of the game, which debuted last April. Their rankings won’t transfer to Xbox Live, but the Wordament team will memorialize their word-finding accomplishments by archiving results over the past year and “enshrining” the top 2,500 players on the game’s Facebook page.
