New Kindles next month? Amazon event planned

It looks like Amazon.com will unveil its new Kindles next month. The company just scheduled a press conference for Sept. 6 in Santa Monica, Calif.

Anonymously sourced reports of new Kindles have been surfacing for months. Various sites have reported that the company’s working on a larger, 9-inch version of the Fire to compete with the iPad, and Fire models with higher resolution.

The company’s also expected to release a new version of its standard Kindle with an illuminated screen, to respond to Barnes & Noble’s “GlowLight” Nook.

Meanwhile Amazon’s been updating online media services that connect to the Fire, such the Cloud Player music storage and streaming service.
