Video: Xbox One’s impressive new Kinect sensor

The cornerstone of Microsoft’s new Xbox One console is the dramatically improved Kinect sensor, which is more precise and forgiving than the initial version that debuted in 2010.

Microsoft improved the sensor components and the software so it captures six times as many pixels and renders 1080p video. It also works in smaller spaces than the original Kinect and is less sensitive to lighting conditions.

We’ll have to see how it works in the real world, after the console goes on sale this holiday season.

But this demonstration at Microsoft headquarters by Kareem Choudhry, Kinect development manager, was impressive.
