Game sales continued to rebound in May when U.S. sales rose 52 percent, the biggest monthly jump in six years, according to NPD’s monthly report.
Sony’s PlayStation 4 continued to lead hardware sales for the fifth consecutive month. Overall hardware sales grew 137 percent compared to the same period last year, mostly because of PS4 and Xbox One sales but also pushed by Nintendo Wii U and Sony Vita bundles.
Overall sales of physical games, hardware and accessories were $586 million, including $274 million spent on games. The firm estimates that $787 million was spent last month on digital games – including subscriptions apps and downloads – bringing total U.S. sales to $1.46 billion.
