Apple may unveil new iPhone Sept. 9

If you’re preparing to buy a new phone you may want to wait a few weeks longer. Apple has reportedly scheduled a press event for Sept. 9 at which it’s likely to announce the next version of the iPhone.

The company is expected to finally increase the screen size of the iPhone with its next model, bringing it in line with the broader trend toward larger phones. A July Wall Street Journal report said suppliers are preparing for models with 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch screens, up from the current 4-inch models.

Expectations of a September unveiling for the iPhone 6 have swirled for some time and today the Re/code news site reported that the event will happen on Sept. 9.

It’s been awhile since Apple has released a dramatically new product, testing the patience of investors and fans, but its executives have said they’re gearing up for fall launches.

An Apple spokeswoman declined to comment.
