LAS VEGAS — My award for the most shameless copying at CES this year goes to the Cool Glass One, a faux Google Glass being made by the Beijing Palo Alto Tech Co. Ltd.
Interest in Google Glass has faded in the U.S. over the past year, but Chinese manufacturers are still gearing up to produce clones they are showing off in Vegas this week.
Big players like Sony are also developing glasses and other headgear to display information, take pictures and augment reality with information displayed in one’s field of vision, but those developers generally have come up with their own designs:
Beijing Palo Alto Tech, a branch of AltoTech, – plans to launch its Cool Glass One in China this spring and internationally this summer.
Maybe the competition will pressure Google to lower its prices. Google charges $1,500 for the Glass “Explorer” edition, pictured here:
