Round-up: Teacher raises money for kids’ Seahawks jerseys, middle school tests high-tech safety tools

Seattle teacher raises money to give kids Seahawks jerseys (Mashable): Kimball Elementary is getting into the Seahawks spirit thanks to special education teacher Kevin Zelko, who recently started an online fundraising campaign to buy jerseys for students. He’s brought in nearly $10,000 so far, according to his campaign page.

California education board approves new funding rules (The Sacramento Bee): In a move aimed at directing more money toward the state’s neediest children, the California Board of Education took action Thursday to implement a Local Control Funding Formula approved by the state legislature last June.

Washington middle school pilots high-tech security measures (Daily Sun News): A middle school east of Yakima is testing out innovative security devices, including automatic classroom locks and employee badges that enable two-way communication with campus security. The program could soon be implemented throughout the Sunnyside School District.
