Round-up: Local districts seek more funds, first lady urges students to apply for aid

Fast-growing local districts seek taxpayer funds to build new schools: Voters in King and Snohomish counties will decide the fate of well over $1 billion worth of school bond measures in special elections next Tuesday. On the Eastside, the Lake Washington School District and Bellevue School District are seeking $755 million and $450 million, respectively.

First lady urges students to apply for federal financial aid (AP): As part of her new focus on encouraging teens to pursue higher education, Michelle Obama appeared at a workshop at a Virginia high school earlier this week. Her key message: Take the time to fill out federal financial aid forms, which the Obama administration says are now shorter and more intuitive.

Thousands of Seattle students skip school to attend Seahawks parade: Seattle Public Schools says more than 13,000 students were absent Wednesday — nearly five times the tally on the previous day.
