Round-up: Two dead in shooting at Oregon high school, state STEM scholarship gets boost

Student and suspect dead after shooting at Oregon high school: A gunman opened fire Tuesday morning at a high school in Troutdale, Ore., killing a student and injuring a teacher. The incident comes less than a week after Thursday’s shooting at Seattle Pacific University.

State-sponsored STEM scholarship gets big funding boost: Opportunity Scholarship will increase its maximum awards by 32 percent, to $22,500. The public-private partnership is designed to encourage low- and moderate-income students to pursue degrees in STEM-related fields.

Number of reported sex crimes up on college campuses (AP): A report released Tuesday by the Education Department found 3,330 forcible sex offenses were reported on U.S. college campuses in 2011, the most recent year data were available for analysis. The figure represents a 52-percent increase from 10 years prior.
